Protecting Trans Youth throughout Europe: How far are we from Decent Healthcare and Legislature?

14:00 – 15:30, Dejan

Many European countries still do not take adequate measures to protect trans youth, and this includes prohibiting discrimination, providing early access to healthcare (including puberty blockers) and providing adequate psychological aid. And many mental health issues of trans and gender-variant persons occur during puberty – the period when gender dysphoria increases due to physical changes of the body. Countries are missing legal regulative mechanisms that ensure safe development of trans children and teens, which result in serious mental health struggles and discrimination. This panel will provide speakers from different associations and organizations from different parts of Europe which deal with the rights of transgender persons, to come together and share their experiences, struggles and findings, in order to send a message of the necessary steps that countries need to take to protect transgender youth.
